One moment at a time

I've had such a good time shooting with my iPhone lately. I like aggregating the images on Instagram and viewing them as a gallery. I've found a lot of great inspiration on there too. Some of my favorite accounts are @mullady, @zaknoyle, @chrisburkard, @natgeo (of course), @andywickstrom and @camp4collective— but really there are too many to list. Feel free to say hi @dylan_silver. Happy 'gramming!

Floating around with a camera

Silver-Surf-2.jpg

I bought a Canon G16 recently and have been toying around with it for the last few weeks. One thing I like about Canon's point-and-shoot line is that the company makes decent affordable water housings for them. While the surf was small in Santa Cruz last weekend, I swam around and shot some photos of friends surfing. Though the images aren't professional quality, they are a great jumping off place for shooting in the water.

Mountain biking Mammoth

I spent the weekend riding mountain bikes around Mammoth Lakes. The trails are spectacular. Many of the single tracks flow really well and offer more technical sections for, um, good riders. Above, local shredder Luke Wynen splashes through a creek on the Sand Canyon trail. Other notable routes include Rock Creek Trail and Wagon Wheel Trail.

My favorite beverage

I was lucky enough to score an assignment about the best drink known to man for Outside's website. Because coffee is something I'm passionate about (and severely addicted to), I checked out all the handiest tools for backcountry hot brewing. Thanks to Andy Wickstrom for the great photo. Check out the story here.

Logging paddle adventures

I've been writing weekly posts about my standup paddling adventures for the great family-owned company, South Tahoe Standup Paddle. The series is called "Awesome Places to Paddle." So far, I've featured several California spots like Ahjumawi Lava Springs and Ano Nuevo State Reserve. If you've got any suggestions for new locations, I'd love to hear about them. Thanks for checking out my work!

Keeping a website updated

I've found that starting a blog is a dangerous thing. Once that first post hits the screen, you've got to be committed. If you're not, your blog fails and your website starts to gather digital dust. So, welcome to my latest attempt. I'm going to win the Internet this time.
